Competitive intelligence is gathered for companies to be able to analyze their position in the market and how they are doing periodically in order to determine the correct strategy for growth. This would also reflect the company taking into consideration where changes needed to be made through identifying problems that are ongoing.

Competitive intelligence includes analysis of the target consumer market, the available competitors and their pricing as well as their products and to know when competitors are running promotional offers. There are multitudes of types of information that can be gleaned through the use of competitive intelligence including the best price to sell at and marketing techniques.
