Frequentist statistics relies on the theory that a representative sample drawn out of larger number of subjects or observations will accurately represent properties of the entire population. Frequentist statistics is used for a wide variety of analysis from scientific research to polling. For the purposes of CRO we are interested in frequentist statistics as the primary method of hypothesis testing, an A/B testing technique that allows us to determine whether or not a variation of web page is performing differently from the control page. While frequentist statistics is the most widely used and applied, it has a counterpart in the form of Bayesian statistics.
