Search Engine Results Page (SERP)

The main component to a search engine results page is the list of results that are returned by the search engine in response to the keyword search the user enacts. The page could also contain advertising or other results but all results fall in two general types, organic or sponsored. Organic searches are ones which come back normally as the result of the keyword search alone and sponsored searches are the result of paid advertisement being in place by web sites to be listed at the top of the list when a keyword is searched for. There are normally several SERPs that respond to every search query as the search engine or the user’s preferences may restrict the view to a subset of the page results.
